Meet the Asante Family | New Residents at Ten Trails in Black Diamond, WA

Meet the Asante Family | New Residents at Ten Trails in Black Diamond, WA

Ten Trails is happy to introduce some of our newest residents, the Asantes! Heather, Imani, and Emma Asante moved to Ten Trails from West Seattle in October with their Shitzu-Poodle, Charlie.

Search for a Close-Knit Community with Family Nearby

Heather and Imani began their search for their new home in south King County to be closer to their family members live in Covington. Heather and Emma visited the Welcome Center and model homes early last fall and fell in love with the sense of community they felt at Ten Trails, the beautiful new model homes, and all of the parks and green spaces in the community.

Hickory Floorplan by Lennar at Ten Trails

The couple chose to purchase the Hickory floorplan by Lennar because the floorplan fit their family’s needs and they especially loved the home’s large, open kitchen and living space. “We loved being able to have family come to our house this year for the holidays,” Heather says. Prior to moving to Ten Trails, the family of three lived in a rental home in West Seattle that was less than 1,000 square feet total in size with only one bathroom. “Having all of this extra space has been amazing,” Heather says.

Community Events at Ten Trails

The Asantes are looking forward to warmer weather and being able to get outside more to gather with neighbors in the parks and at one of the community’s many fire pits. Imani says he would love to get out and explore some of the community’s many trails this spring and check out the nearby Black Diamond Open Space Park with his mountain bike. “We love being out here so close to nature,” he says. “It’s a perfect escape at the end of a workday in the city.” Welcome to the community! We are so happy you chose Ten Trails as your new hometown! 360.469.4043 www.TenTrails.com

Black Diamond Elementary School Embraces Technology and Small-Group-Based Learning to Help Students Achieve at High Levels

Ten Trails residents of elementary school age attend the nearby Black Diamond Elementary School where small class sizes, a whole-child based mission and focus on technology in the classrooms creates a robust learning environment for children. Read on to learn more about this brand new school located in historic Black Diamond, WA and their newest Principal, Tim Lee.

Black Diamond Elementary School Mission and Strategic Plan

The school’s strategic plan incorporates a mission of Habits, Hands & Heart and Head, ensuring the equity of all students achieving at high levels. School staff aligns resources to support the students and community-based learning. Instruction focuses on the whole child, ensuring that each student is healthy, safe, engaged, supported and challenged. The school maintains a focus on instructional improvement to create positive, powerful learning experiences for students, each period, each day.

Instruction to Focus on the Whole Child

Principal Tim Lee, emphasizes that the school’s curriculum is focused on promoting the long-term success of students through an approach that treats each child as an individual with his or her own unique learning style and needs. Because of the schools’ small class sizes and relatively small student body, Lee and his educators can have one-on-one interaction with each child, and also quickly intervene when a child may need extra assistance both academically and emotionally. The school organizes small groups designed to help children with a wide range of life and family challenges such a grief, divorce and social and emotional skills.

Technology in the Black Diamond Elementary School Classrooms

Teachers at the Black Diamond Elementary School embrace the use of technology in the classroom and offer students the use of Chromebooks as part of their daily work plan. Inside the modern classrooms in the new school, teachers’ instruction is conducted on projector screens versus traditional chalk or dry erase boards. The elementary students can be found sitting in non-traditional grouping of “pods” of desks or other configurations of groupings to encourage collaboration and small-group based learning. Lee emphasizes that this group-based learning helps prepare students for when they eventually enter the workforce where tasks are conducted largely in group settings. The school is also proud of their robotics program that allows students to work together to write code to make a small robot perform basic functions.

Emphasis on Literacy

Black Diamond Elementary School places a strong emphasis on literacy with students taking part in a minimum of one hour of small group reading per day. The school library offers students access to a wide range of fiction and non-fiction texts as well as life-skills programs to teach students about how to avoid plagiarism when writing, and how to navigate the internet safely. Black Diamond Elementary School is located just a few miles from Ten Trails at 25314 Baker St, Black Diamond, WA 98010. Keep up with all the latest news and information by following the school on their Facebook page. 360.469.4043 www.TenTrails.com

Meet New Neighbors to Ten Trails: The Scott Family

Meet New Neighbors to Ten Trails: The Scott Family

Ten Trails is happy to introduce new neighbors, Justin and Kit Scott! This couple moved to the community last month from nearby Maple Valley and are in love with their new lifestyle in this growing master planned community!

Brand New Homes at an Attractive Price Point

The Scotts were drawn to the community because of the competitive prices on brand new homes and fell in love with the great amenities offered at Ten Trails. “I’ve always been attracted to city living,” says Kit, “but I don’t necessarily want to live around all the crazy crowds and nightlife that brings. Ten Trails offers the best of both worlds: it’s very family-focused here, but with all of the services and amenities nearby that we need.”

A Community for Residents of all Ages

The Scotts have three teenage children who are enjoying their new Ichijo Sawyer plan home as much as their parents. “They love bringing their friends over to show off the house,” says Kit. The family of five especially enjoyed spending the holiday in their new home. “We moved in the day of Ten Trails’ Christmas tree-lighting event,” says Kit. “We were so sad we couldn’t go, but we really enjoyed hearing all the music and cheering from our house. We definitely are looking forward to attending next year!” When asked if they’d recommend the community to others, the Scotts responded with a resounding, “yes!” “We are just so impressed with Ten Trails,” says Justin. “The whole experience has been wonderful.” Welcome to the community, Justin and Kit! We are so glad you chose Ten Trails as Your New Hometown! 360.469.4043 www.TenTrails.com

Enjoy a Sense of Community at Ten Trails

In today’s busy, modern society, it’s more and more difficult to connect in person with our friends and neighbors. Ten Trails’ developer created the community with a goal in mind to build a place that was desirable to live, and where residents could feel a connection to their community and to each other. With this goal in mind, the community’s many amenities, events and parks were carefully designed to bring together residents and the public in gorgeous spaces inspired by nature.

Ten Trails Community Events

Ten Trails hosts seasonal community events that bring together residents and the public. These include Sunset Markets in our Civic Park featuring vendor booths, food trucks, live music, and kids’ activities, as well as movie nights in the park, concerts in the park, holiday events, and more.

Ten Trails Community Amenities

Our Civic Park performance pavilion is the site of musical performances and more at our summer Hometown Social events, which also bring together both residents and the public. Ten Trails has community fire pits located throughout the residential areas and parks where neighbors enjoy gathering in the evenings. Our sports courts are popular meeting spaces for neighborhood kids, and our newly constructed pea patches are soon to be a favorite gathering spot for residents.

Five Reasons to Check out the Green River Gorge this Year | Ten Trails News and Blog

Five Reasons to Check out the Green River Gorge this Year | Ten Trails News and Blog

Ten Trails residents enjoy an active lifestyle close to outdoor activities and area recreational destinations like the nearby Green River Gorge. Read more to find out five reasons you should explore this local conservation site this year!

Search for Local Wildlife

The Green River Gorge is home to abundant wildlife like deer, elk, and black bear. Bald eagles have also been spotted in the area, and Chinook salmon use the Green River as their spawning grounds in the fall.

Hike the Hanging Gardens Trail

The 150-foot white sandstone cliffs of the Green River Gorge are home to native plants and some small cedar trees which cling to the cliff’s edge and give the Hanging Gardens Trail its name. Access to the trail is tricky as the trailhead is unmarked. Hikers can look for the red gate on the north side of Enumclaw/Franklin Road SE and take a short walk down the road to a primitive trail that leads down to the Green River and offers views of the cliff gardens.

Go Tubing on the Green River

In the summer months, the Green River is a popular tubing site for locals who are looking for some relief from the heat. Popular tubing routes are from Flaming Geyser Park to the SR18 Bridge (2.5 hours) or from Flaming Geyser to Whitney Bridge (45 minutes.) Be sure to wear a life vest and keep an eye out for local kayakers who are also known to spend time navigating these portions of the river.

View the Maid of the Mist Falls

Also commonly known as the “Green River Gorge Falls” the 50-foot Maid of the Mist waterfall is clearly visible with just a short hike from the historic Franklin Ghost Town trail. The trail is part of privately-owned land, but the public is welcome to visit the falls and tour the Franklin Ghost Town trail for a $5 fee.

Search for Fossils and Petrified Wood

The Green River has been known to wash up the ancient remains of plant and wildlife and visitors to the Green River Gorge have come across fossils and petrified wood while strolling the riverbanks. Bring the kids and let them have a blast playing archaeologist for the day while hunting for prehistoric treasures. 360.469.4043 www.TenTrails.com
